Mediatek Receives 7-nanometer Silicon Certification

MediaTek  announced yesterday (10th) that it has introduced the industry's first  56-Gigabit PAM4 SerDes IP with 7-nm FinFET Silicon-Proven, expanding its  ASIC product lineup and aggressively attacking such markets as Netcom  and high-speed computing. .


The mobile phone chip supply chain believes that customers are  actively pursuing product differentiation. The demand for ASICs is quite  obvious. MediaTek is rushing into the ASIC field and focusing on  heavyweight customers, which will facilitate the expansion of shipments,  increase the scale of sales, and improve operating performance.


MediaTek said that the 56G SerDes solution is based on digital signal  processing (DSP) technology, using high-speed transmission signal PAM4,  with best-in-class performance, power consumption and die-area.


At  present, MediaTek's 56G SerDes silicon intellectual property has been  verified by 7nm and 16nm prototype chip entities to ensure that the  silicon intellectual property can be easily integrated into various  front-end product designs. The market expects that MediaTek’s future 7-nanometer and 16-nanometer ASICs will still be produced at TSMC.


According  to Jie Jie, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek and General Manager of  Intelligent Device Group, in the past few years, the ASIC market has  undergone changes. To achieve differentiated competition, products in  the IoT, communications and consumer sectors all require unique ASIC  solutions. MediaTek sees this from ASIC new development opportunities.


MediaTek's  SerDes product portfolio can be designed for ASIC chips, providing  solutions ranging from 10G, 28G, 56G to 112G, locking enterprise-class  and hyperscale data centers, ultra-high performance network switches,  routers, 4G and 5G infrastructure, Artificial intelligence and deep learning applications, new-state  computing applications that require UHF wide-range and long-distance  mutual transmission.


From the perspective of terminal applications, MediaTek's ASIC  customer base includes wired and wireless communications, ultra-high  performance computing, low-power IoT, wireless connectivity, personal  multimedia, advanced sensors, and radio frequency.


MediaTek  pointed out that the first product using 56G SerDes silicon  intellectual property has been under development and is expected to be  officially listed in the second half of this year.
